The Algonquin College Business Innovation Centre and the Ottawa Community Loan Fund (OCLF) are launching an annual conference to celebrate and showcase excellence in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). His Worship Mayor Larry O'Brien will open the event by highlighting the importance of corporate social responsibility to the Ottawa community.

Paul Martin was born in Windsor in 1938 and educated at the University of Ottawa and the University of Toronto. In 1965, he earned his LL.B and married Sheila, with whom he had three sons. After a successful business career as Chairman and CEO of Canada Steamship Lines he entered politics as a Liberal M.P. in 1988. After running for leadership of the party he became Minister of Finance from 1993 to 2001, becoming Prime Minister in 2003. He resigned as party leader after the 2006 election but continues to work in the public sphere.

No other Canadian political leader has done more to promote social enterprise and the social economy than the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin. His social economy initiative allocated millions
of dollars into this sector, removed barriers to financing of social enterprises by federal development agencies and raised the profile of social enterprise among policy makers. |
